Poppy's Birthday

Last Sunday Poppy (my mom's husband) was 85. Jim is quite a wonderful man, and I am very happy that 31 years ago when he met my mom, a just about to be divorced woman with ten kids, he did not turn tail and run. For that reason alone he is on of my heroes. Well we all got together for a very nice Sunday afternoon for chili and mayhem at Janet's to celebrate here are some pictures:

I let Lily use my camera, I love to do that you never know what you are going to get :)

The wonderful hostess, Janet

Here is the birthday boy with Jake.

Putting on the feedbag :)

Pat skyped in from Iraq.

So we made sure he was in a group shot.

The day ended with a beautiful chester county sunset. (view from Janet's deck)

June it is

well I like angela's name and I am now calling my juki - june. Well she was the only one to respond.

I saw this quotes and it comes from one of my favorite books, Cold Mountain. Not that I thought the story was beyond outstanding, but because of how well it was written. Just in this quote you can read how he meandered through and you really grasp Rudy and her personality. You see a hillbilly woman with a distrust of the big bad world. Please read this book if you are so inclined. I never saw the movie and never intend to, when I really like a book, I rarely watch the movie. Hollywood cannot get it right.

“there was not one thing in a place like france or new york or charleston that ruby wanted. and little she even needed that she couldn’t make or grow or find on cold mountain. she held a deep distrust of travel. her view was that a world properly put together would yield inhabitants so suited to their lives in their assigned place that they would never need nor wish to travel. folks would, out of utter contentment, choose to stay home, since the failure to do so was patently the root of many ills, current and historic.”

I need to sew a bit, but hopefully later I will put up some pics of Jim's birthday party.

going to try - a poll

I am now going to try and be a faithful blogger, I do not think I have any followers left, but we will see. A little sewing post, I think if i make this blog about my sewing room adventures it might not be quite so boring.

at a later post I might share my attempt at sewing pj pants with flannel, right now it is not working out, and I have three tabs open in my computer and the middle one is labeled: "sewing the crotch" everytime I look at that I crack up.

Here are my weekend sewing goals.

I just made a new and improved design wall in my quilt room, it is a flannel sheet from Target.

Hopefully, this string quilt will become a comforter cover for my bed, I have been having a good think about how to do this, I will let you know how it turns out.

This quilt I started before things got really busy at work so I hope to finish at least the borders by the end of the weekend. I will let you know how far I get.

I know that I do not have any more readers, if I do. This is my sewing machine (I love it!) It is a Juki 98Q. It needs a name...

If there is anyone left out there that reads this silly thing, please help me name my sewing machine.

sadness

Well I guess my American Idol days are over. I simply cannot watch Ellen try and be a judge, she is going to try way to hard to be funny. c'mon folks we all know most of the fun was watching Paula be on drugs and act like a weirdo with Simon.

Pappy said the same thing, so we are in agreement.

just thinking out loud

I want to learn how to knit socks.

My son is getting married in one week.

You know how you do things without a thought and then your husband says 'honey, when you do that it get's on my nerves' and you are like wow I do not even know I did that. Then everytime you do it and he is not around you feel like you are getting away with something?

Pool Day

This picture is suppose to go with the previous post, quite the experiment to figure out if i could post mobile-like with my iPhone. I might just have some fun with this little thing I just figure out. Not that anyone reads this, but it is fun none the less.

Experiment

The clouds earlier scared me, now I think my pool day can begin.

I am trying to figure out if I can post mobile-like. But I think I
lost the picture.

Father's Day

Cape May Point for Father's day was a blast. Margie, Jeanne, Janet, Lily and Lia and I all drove down to the shore for daddy's day. I spent the better part of Friday and Saturday quilting a gift for him.

Here we are with the quilt:
We went for a walk on the beach

collected shell, rocks, driftwood and hung out on the lifeguard stand. It was not great beach weather.

We had a scrumptious dinner that Lynne cooked on the grill and we went on another walk to the circle. The sun look really cool on St Pete's the little catholic church on the circle.

Then we went down to Sunset Beach and it was a beautiful sunset.

I Love you, Dad.

Idol live blog

Jennifer Hudson was classic, I really like her. She made me, with her performance in Dream Girls.

bottom three Anoop, Matt and Lil. Glad Anoop is safe

I finally get to see Miley Cyrus sing. I have never seen her before and still do not even understand the whole Hannah Montana thing.

She is a bit nasally.. i really do not understand anything she is saying, get your hair out of your eyes girl!

Matt and Lil, Simon claims there is one he will save. Neither of them have been listening to their advice. Matt keeps trying to sing Rock and Roll and that is not his genre, Lil is told to be more soulful/gospel and the Rose is not a song you can do that to. I love the Rose it had has always been one of my favorite songs.

wow so Matt is going to be sent home, Lil needs to get her act together, or she will go home next week unless someone really messes up.

I hate this song, but they are going to use the save...these people are freaks. I guessed right.

That was a very intense Idol...Paula is on drugs.

Matt's jacket is ugly.

I cannot wait for disco week. Lil can/should do a crazy Donna Summers song.

fashion

Well I wanted have a last post in my critique of Michelle Obama's clothes during all the hoopla. The thing is she has a kickin bod and really could wear anything. I think what the issue is that she just does not accessorize well the green gloves and shoes just did not match that dress. I think the other thing she needs to consider is the weather. That dress she wore yesterday morning was just to spring, she would have smoked them had she worn red that is good cold color.

here are some examples of the gloves and shoes that to me just did not go.

here are the shoes:
I was not digging the dress at all. She would have rocked the house with something either with thinner straps or with a halter that one strap thing was a bit to thick and the texture on the dress really was not working, she is tall and thin and that texture really made her look dumpy and a little Gone with the Windish...

They are kinda cute when they flirt with each other.

celebrities

I could not a picture and was posting this as Aretha was singing, she definitely wins the award...

Here are some guests that are all going for an award for best hat at the inauguration.

Who do you think has the best the hat???

see what I mean

Look at this picture. Laura looks flawless and very put together:

Yikes!

Traci and Kelli told me I should live blog about the inauguration today. Specifically how I think that Michelle Obama needs a major overhaul in her clothing. She is a terrible dresser, I think that she has a good body, but really needs a Rachel Zoe or a what not to wear intervention. This first picture is her going to the church for morning prayer service...

Gold Lama for a church service?

The problem will be that Laura will look very put together and classy.

I will continue to live blog all the fashion on this historic day.
